1 st Printing Errata If you have the second printing, the following corrections have been made. If you have a first printing you will need to print and refer the following corrections. To tell which printing you have: Look on the page, 4 in from the front cover that contains the ISBN number. Look just above the ISBN number near the bottom of the page. If it is a first printing you will see the numbers 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 If it is a second printing you will see the numbers 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 only, with the 1 missing. If your book is used, it is likely a first printing. The second printing was issued in May 2001. Inside front cover: 2 nd line up from the bottom the value for ω d is missing a sub n and should be ωω ζ d n =− 1 2 Inside front cover 2 nd page: 2 nd line from the top. The symbol just before the = sign should be Xk / F 0 instead of X / F 0 . p. xiv Add the following text: Insert A: Dr. Mark Schulz of North Carolina A & T State University provided the material for Section 7.8 on operational deflection shapes for which I am grateful. This is a model used in his Ph.D. dissertation in Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Tech (a student of Prof. D. T. Mook) to perform aeroelastic simulations. Thus it is not just a nice drawing but represents a method for computing important phenomena, such as flutter, useful in the design of aircraft. Acknowledgment of this important contribution to the cover of this text was inadvertently left out of the first printing.
