Case Study 1: Global Growth Robert Kilbey started his own company in the 60’s and came up with the idea to start using Velcro fasteners to take the place of older more common fasteners that were being used at present. He called his new idea the hook and loop and it was a huge success and was used on many different products around the world as well as on medical equipment. Later his company, Professional Products, Inc., started to grow and become a huge success. This company that makes medical supplies is known for being one of the most stable employers which is a rare thing to find in the work world today. They are said to be quick and efficient and they even make some things, like elastic, themselves to ensure that it is quality that meets their standards. The company prides itself on the fact that they have never had a layoff. They do whatever is necessary to keep their employees on, whether it is shortened work weeks or what not. They train their employees to be able to do multiple jobs so that they may be moved to help out in a different area of the company should the need arise. The no layoffs in and out of its expansion are great anyway you look at it. Customers that get their products from the company are going to have the peace of mind of knowing that the products that they receive are going to be of the same great quality every time they order something. The reason that they can be sure of this is that they know that pretty much the same people will be making the products each time. Knowing that the people making your equipment have been doing it for a long time and that it’s not being made by someone that just started the business and doesn’t know how to make the product very well can be good to know. So in these ways the no layoff plan is very beneficial to the company.

Only opening one office to start with seems like a very good business decision. With only one office open it will be a much smaller expense loss compared to if they spent the money to open up multiple offices and then have to close them down if they are unsuccessful. Instead of hiring quickly when the company has more work than usual, they cross train
