2 Syllabus Highlights s TuTh meet your TA (Josh) in the PIC Lab. s The discussion is mostly open lab, but Josh will also give help on the weekly homework. Going to discussion will save you some headaches on the HW. s Homework 40% s Midterm Exam 15% s Project 15% s Final Exam 30% s Office Hours: MWF 12:30-1:30, MS 6324 s This is a 5-credit course. So we expect a lot of you! Homework s HW is due Thursday 6:00pm. s Submit HW in PIC Lab, we will not accept HW by e-mail. s No late HW will ever be accepted. s Microsoft software will be available for download after the 2nd week. You can work at home, but you are responsible for correctly submitting the HW. The homework must compile in the PIC Lab. s Good News : The homeworks are more open-ended. s Bad News : The homeworks are very challenging.

3 Exams s Midterm Exam is in class Mon 5/3 in the PIC Lab. s Final Exam is Mon 6/7 11:30-2:30 in the PIC Lab. s The exams will be half written, half programming. s Practice exams are online. s The exams are open book, open notes, open internet, open everything except talking to a live person. Software Project s To attract visitors and generate advertising revenue, websites sometimes offer small free video games. s You have been contracted by Matt Groening to write a video game in C# for thesimpsons.com. s This does not need to be an action game; it could be a thinking game like Hangman, Blackjack, or Sudoku. s Project due Wednesday June 2nd (last week of classes) . s We will not learn C# until Week 3, so for now start brainstorming about possible projects. 20 Questions on thesimpsons.com

4 Software Project s The projects will be graded on programming skill (use of classes and data structures, good style, modularity, difficulty level, interface, programming creativity). s The projects will not be graded on graphics, gameplay, game creativity, or fun. But those are not necessarily bad things. s
