Economic Impact: -People drafted, except in Britain -Germany had forced civilian labor -Rationed food and controlled economy and forbade strikes b. Propaganda War: -Controlling of public opinion with propaganda -Casualties kept quiet -Restrictions, and played up Germany’s barbarisms c. Impact on Women: -Women took over jobs and industries when men were gone -Nurses tended to the injured -New pride and confidence for women -After war, they were forced to give up jobs again, but struggled on for rights II. Collapsing Morale a. Revolution in Russia: -Russian peasants thrown into war, so they revolted -Overthrown Russia, allies hoped for more democratic gov. and help from them -Bad for Allies because new leader withdrew their troops b. Impact on the War: -Germany concentrated on west b/c Russia had withdrawn -Germany ready III. The United States Declares War a. Unrestricted Submarine Warfare: -Germany killed American trade ships b/c they were supplying
