Solution for HW5 Problem 3 (Ansys problem) Following previous steps in the example Specify geometry Set keypoint numbers as #1(0,0), #2(60,34.64), #3(60,103.92), and #4(120,0), and create lines from keypoints (The order of the keypoints for a line doesn’t matter!). *The dimension of the length is in inches. Figure 1. Geometry of the structure Define the boundary conditions From the problem we need to find the force ratio H/P for which the displacement of node 4 is zero. So, we set the displacement constraints as UX and UY is zero at node 1 and 4. The reaction force in the horizontal direction at node 4 is therefore the load that would need to be applied to fix the displacement to zero. We set this reaction load to H at the end. Also, we apply load assumed as 1 lb in the negative y-direction at keypoint #3 (I use 1 lb load for convenience, but you can use any other value to find force ratio.).
