April Erickson March 7, 2010 Learning Journal #3 This reading section gave me a lot of hope for future for working at some larger organizations. Organizations like Google that have such a good reputation and create a “different” environment. I find some of the things Google does, similar to what I have heard of 3M in their research and development areas. When we were discussing the different companies in class and my group had W.L. Gore I thought it was interesting about how they determine new projects. Unlike most organizations, it is not pitching it to senior management and getting their approval, it is about getting others throughout the organization to work with you on the project. If you can’t get anybody, it perhaps is a sign that the idea is not necessarily needed or not strong enough for the others to know its potential importance. I also like the fact that W.L. Gore that they consider people leaders by what they do and how they do it, not by a title they have or who
