The Vietnam War The connection between student unrest and the Vietnam War was the fact that these youths were dragged into a war which they did not understand. When the Vietnam War carried onto its second decade, those young men who had received deferments because of their student status found themselves in increasing jeopardy as their graduation dates approached. All the while the promised end to these hostilities failed to materialize itself into reality. This caused the hatred for the authority of national leaders whose platitudes and slogans had proved to be false and helped spread a distrust of students for all traditional authority figures. This caused students to question the authority of all those in a position of power or dominance. As a result students began to question the way things were done by parents to administrators to even Joint Chief of staff to the President himself. Not only did this lead to questioning but, also a demand of the “real” reason as to
