OPTI-202R Homework No. 2 Michael Descour Spring 2010 Assigned: 1/27/10 (Wed) Due: 2/3/10 (Wed) Note: Do all of problems in this set using Gaussian methods. 2-1) A 50 mm cube is to be imaged by two optical systems: a) The center of the cube is positioned 500 mm from the front principal plane of an optical system with = –200 mm and = 300 mm. b) The center of the cube is positioned 500 mm from the front principal plane of an optical system with = 300 mm and = –200 mm. In each case, what are the dimensions of the image of the cube? Also determine the location of the cube image. You may assume that the cube is a wire grid so that obscuration, index and transparency are not issues. 20 points 2-2) A concave mirror with a radius of curvature of 100 mm is used to image a real object 200 mm away from its vertex. Where is the image and what is the magnification? Work this problem using the sign conventions of class. Note:
