(3-1) (25 pts.) A thick lens in air has the following specifications: R 1 = 127 mm R 2 = –77 mm Th = 17 mm n = 1.472 (a) What are the focal length and power of this lens? Where is the image of an object at infinity located with respect to the rear vertex of the lens (i.e., the back focal distance)? (b) What are the focal length, power, and back focal distance (BFD) if the index of the lens is changed to n = 1.853? (c) What are the rear focal length, focal length, power, and BFD if the original lens ( n = 1.472) is immersed in water ( n = 1.333)? (3-2) (20 pts.) A lens assembly is made up of two identical thin lenses separated by 25 mm and the effective focal length of each thin lens is 50 mm. Fixed object and image planes are separated by 150 mm.
