WISE JUDGEMENT SCENARIO 2 Baltes define wisdom as good judgment and advice concerning important but uncertain events of live (Bolt, 2004). By definition “good judgment that comes from knowledge and experience in life” (Bolt, 2004). Within their studies, Baltes and his colleagues found that the global wisdom judgments were correlated with ratings on each of the five criteria. First of these criteria’s is the factual knowledge about matters of life (Bolt, 2004). This criterion includes knowledge about human nature, interpersonal relations, and social norms (Bolt, 2004). The second of these criteria’s is procedural knowledge (Bolt, 2004). Procedural knowledge involves approaches for dealing with life’s events and weighing goals, methods of handling conflicts, and ways of offering advice (Bolt, 2004). The third of these criteria’s is lifespan contextualism (Bolt, 2004).Lifespan contextualism is the knowledge about the different roles and contexts of life and how these may change over time (Bolt, 2004). The fourth criterion is recognition and management of uncertainty. This criterion is the awareness that human knowledge is limited, the future cannot be fully known, and life is unpredictable (Bolt, 2004). Finally, the fifth criterion is the acknowledgement of individual and cultural differences in values and life priorities or known as relativism regarding solutions (Bolt, 2004). Through these criteria’s, findings supported the notion that wisdom can be identified and assessed (Bolt, 2004). For example, a mother knows that her seven-year old child has stolen a box of cookies from the store while she was grocery shopping. Factual Knowledge about Matters of Life The mother has certain facts related to this life interaction. This knowledge is based on the information or knowledge that can be verified and be considered accurate. The factual
