Unformatted text preview: Second Lieutenant in 1915. During the First World War, Eisenhower did not serve, because he was stationed at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas. After World War I, he served as an army Chief of Staff from November 1945 to February 1948. In December 1950, President Truman recalled him to active command of the North Atlantic Treaty organization until May 1952. (www.biography.com) President Eisenhower was elected in 1953 and worked hard to ease the Cold War tension, He met with the Allies at Geneva in 1955. He also brought an armed peace forces along the border of South Korea. During his second term, Eisenhower emphasized a balanced budget.
