Part 10: Maintenance Strategy – Current State of Maintenance Strategy The Volkswagen Group produced a total of 11,017,621 vehicles worldwide in fiscal year 2018, 1.3% more than in the previous year. This equated to an average of approximately 44,000 vehicles produced every working day at 122 production plants. With this level of production, Volkswagen must have a sophisticated maintenance strategy in place to maintain a reliable and stable process. In order to prevent downtime, lost output, rejects and reworking in general, the company uses the Total Productive Maintenance or TPM strategy at their production facilities. TPM is a continuous process, that involves their entire workforce. They implement round-the- clock maintenance of the technical facilities to ensure that they are always operational and guaranteed to function reliably. An integral part of the company’s TPM strategy are their planned shutdowns which allow them to do preventative maintenance of equipment, prepare for new vehicles, and implement new technology to improve production times. They provide an opportunity to reduce the energy, materials, safety hazards, and waste associated with manufacturing, and overall are good for business.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
