Discuss impact of economic conditions : In personal financial planning, as in other areas of finance, key assumptions need to be made about the future that can make all the difference as to whether you and/or your clients meet financial goals as planned (or fall short and run out of money). A financial planner should have knowledge of economic conditions to understand the present and best plan for the future. Macroeconomic assumptions about what will happen in the future to a myriad of factors including interest rates, inflation, taxes, markets, currency exchange rates, and consumer confidence levels are important but hard to predict (none of us have a crystal ball). Right now, we are living in what some people are referring to as an "upside down" economic environment. Interest rates have been falling across the world. In the U.S., long term interest rates have fallen below short term rates, and other developed countries are seeing negative bond yields (and in Denmark, negative interest rate mortgages). No
