Organizational Decision Making “Organizational Decision Making is the process of responding to a problem by searching for and selecting a solution or course of action that will create value for organizational stakeholders… All organizations have to develop the capacity to make both programmed and non-programmed decisions. Programmed decision making allows an organization to increase its efficiency and reduce the costs of making goods and services. Non- programmed decision making allows the organization to change and adapt to its environment and to generate new ways of behaving so that it can effectively take advantage of its environment. ”The organizational decision making Best Snacks needs to make is to search for and select a solution to their reduced numbers. A new solution will help to create value for all stakeholders involved. Programmed decisions will increase efficiency which will reduce costs and improve revenue. Non- programmed decisions will be those that allow the company to keep up with the competition by adapting. Jones, 2004, p. 368 I have worked in collegiate athletics for the majority of my adult life. Collegiate athletic departments use organizational decision making when dealing with allocation of budgets and resources, such as, practice scheduling and use of field time. 3
