Farzan Ahmad-Hassanzadi History 20 03-03-2010 Delegate Report After World War II the world was in turmoil with the majority of the super powers crumbling after the intensity of the war, the Democratic United States and the Communist Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were the only that were not badly bankrupt. As a result, this caused the polar ideologies to battle for global dominance in the world, and become the lone super power. What started out as a non-violent battle for global dominance, soon escalated to an underground war between the United States and the USSR. The United States and USSR were playing a very dangerous chess match with helpless third world nations as pawns. With the fear of Communism spreading the United States decided to help over throw the democratic elected Chilean president because of his Marxist beliefs, and in doing so the United States turned its back to many of its own beliefs. After the war many nations were in peril and they all wanted a savior, and to many Communism represented a way out. The United States seeing that their was a rise in Communist parties accrose the world as well as in the United States. This started a mass hysteria in the United States, a great example of this would have to be “the anti-communist pursuits of U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy,
