1 CVEN 349: Civil Engineering Project Management LECTURE # 20 Fall 2009 Dr. Ivan Damnjanovic Accidents Shouldn’t Happen ± Most accidents are preventable. ± Often initiated by: ± Short-cuts in work process ± Poor safety procedures ± Inadequate safety equipment or equipment not properly maintained or used ± Carelessness ± Fatigue Safety in Construction ± Construction accidents can happen: ± Scaffolding collapses or tips over ± Beams fall ± Equipment strikes workers ± Hand tools cause personal injuries (saws & fingers don’t mix!) ± Etc.
