World Politics Paper Outline Opening paragraph: Introduce different theories and a general idea of what your going to talk about Stability: refers to circumstances in which the sovereignty of key states is preserved Instability: refers to changes in the composition of the international system, especially changes involving the disappearance or emergence of “key” states following large wars. Neorealist theorists: Believe distribution of power in the international system is a major factor determining whether international affairs are stable or unstable. They don’t like uncertainty and they care most about their security Four major assumptions o International politics is anarchic o States, as rational unitary entities, are the central actors in international politics o States seek to maximize their security above all else, and consider other factors only after security is assured o States seek to increase their power so long as doing so does not place their security at risk. Hypothesis on the threat of war or instability
