1 MPET- IBD Inflammatory Bowel Disease v Crohn’s disease v Colitis ulcerosa Chronic inflammatory diseases with acute exacerbations MPET- IBD Inflammatory Bowel Disease Crohn’s disease Well-defined segments of the bowel, from esophagus to anus with interspersed normal segments Transmural inflammation: can lead to perforation and fistulation, ulceration, damage of mucosa Repair can involve scar formation and stenosis Granulomas can be present Diarrhea, pain, fatigue and fever, weight loss MPET- IBD Inflammatory Bowel Disease Colitis Ulcerosa Only the colon, continuous area Restricted to mucosa and submucosa Blood containing diarrhea Granulomas are not present Predisposition for colon cancer MPET- IBD Inflammatory Bowel Disease Epidemiology: m.Crohn: most in Western populations (Caucasian RR2- 5, Jewish RR x5) incidence= 3/100 000 no gender preference starts mostly between age 15-35 Colitis ulcerosa:
