Being a college student is not an easy task; it is a lot different than high school, and in many different ways. You no longer have teachers that hover over you while you work, remind you of upcoming assignments, or motivate you to do your best. It is up to you to make sure that you turn in work on time and graduate. Being an online student is even harder because you not only have all that responsibility, but you are not in a classroom setting like other students would be. You have to have a lot of motivation and determination to succeed. Throughout this course I have developed a Student Survival Guide to help aid me throughout my studies. My guide will cover the following areas: Using Axia’s educational resources, upholding academic honesty, setting and achieving goals, managing time wisely, fostering reading comprehension and retention, and applying personality and learning styles. Using Axia’s Educational Resources Axia College of University of Phoenix has a vast amount of educational resources online for students to use. One of the most helpful resources to me is the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE). Within this resource are a number of tools that will help you throughout your studies. I think one of the greatest tools is the plagiarism checker and writepoint. Plagiarism checker is useful because it allows you to submit papers that you have written and check to make sure that it is correctly cited. It tells you how much of your paper has come up plagiarized and it even highlights what those areas are. Writepoint also allows you to submit papers before you turn them in and check for spelling and grammatical errors. This tool is a lifesaver for me; I am not the best speller in the world, and my grammar is not always correct either. I use this tool with every assignment that I do. Some other tools that I have not used yet but CWE offers are; a variety of tutorials and guides, sample documents of every kind, a thesis generator, essay development guidelines, and lots of other wonderful and useful things as well. In addition to

CWE Axia college offers other great resources. Another great resource available is the online library. Not only can you gather information at the click of a button, but you can gather it from three different databases: EBSCOhost, Gale Power Search, and ProQuest. You can search about any topic and look through papers, articles, journals, etc. You can even suggest seeing peer- reviewed documents. Another neat tool that is available if you feel overwhelmed with information is the librarian link. I personally have not used this tool, but I know it will be helpful as I get into classes that require essay writing. Upholding Academic Dishonesty
