You can get basic instructions on using the Harvest Catalog at: http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/ul/help/harvestbasic.pdf SEARCH #1: Below is a citation for a chapter in a book (written in APA-correct form). You can tell it’s a book because 1.) there’s a listing of who the editor(s) is, and 2.) the publisher and city of publication are listed. All book references will have a publisher and city of publication. Journal articles don’t have any of this information. Emmons, R.A., & McCullough, M.E. (Eds.), The psychology of gratitude . New York: Oxford University Press. To find the UC Davis library location of this book: 1.) Select the blue “Advance” link in the small banner at the upper right of the Harvest page. 2.) Use the “Field to Search” drop down menus to choose what type of information you want the search engine to use. For best results, use all three fields, filling in the appropriate information for each field type. For example, choose “Title Words” and enter “gratitude.” Next choose “Author, personal” and enter “Emmons”. Finally, choose “Year” and enter 2004. NOTE: When you are searching by author for a chapter in a book, make sure you put in the name(s) of the book’s editor( s), not the article authors(s), since Harvest is searching for book authors, not article or chapter authors. Click SEARCH when you’ve finished filling in your search fields.
