PSYCHOLOGY FUNDAMENTALS Course: Psy Beh 11B (course code: 55050) / Psych 9B (course code: 68050) Time: Spring 2010, Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:00 – 3:20 PM Location: Biological Sciences III, Room 1200 (Bldg. 519) Professor: Dr. Linda Levine, Department of Psychology and Social Behavior Office hrs: Mondays 11:00 to 11:50 AM Office: Social and Behavioral Sciences Gateway, Room 4568 Phone: 824-7692 Email: [email protected] Website: https://eee.uci.edu/10s/55050 OVERVIEW The courses labeled “Social Ecology Psy Beh 11 A, B, C” and “Social Sciences Psych 9 A, B, C” refer to the same, cross-listed, three-quarter course sequence. All three courses are offered every quarter and they can be taken in any order. This course sequence is designed to give students a strong foundation in the major research areas of psychology. Topics include human cognitive and social development, memory, language, emotional and social behavior, psychopathology, and neuroscience. This course sequence is required for students majoring in Psychology and Social Behavior in the School of Social Ecology and for students majoring in Psychology in the School of Social Sciences. These courses can also be taken by non-majors. In this part of the course sequence, “Psy Beh 11B” or “Psych 9B,” we will learn about memory, thinking, language, cognitive development, and social development. ADDING AND DROPPING THE COURSE Adding or dropping this course is possible via Webreg in the first two weeks of the quarter. You may register under Psy Beh 11B (Psychology and Social Behavior majors) or Psych 9B (Psychology majors). You may add or drop this course only in the first two weeks of the quarter. WHAT YOU NEED FOR THIS COURSE Note: The two books and the I-clicker that are required for this course are available for purchase at the UCI bookstore, in the section for Social Sciences Psychology courses, under the course number: Psychology 9B. If you plan to buy new copies of the two books (textbook and reader), you can buy them packaged together at the UCI bookstore for less than it costs to buy them individually. Textbook: Psychology (7 th Edition) by H. Gleitman, D. Reisberg, & J. Gross. W.W. Norton & Co, 2007. This textbook offers access to a website that includes study guides for each chapter, practice tests, and other interesting information. Each new textbook includes a code for you to enter at this website to access this information. The codes are valid for one year after activation. If you have already entered your code because you took a prior Psychology Fundamentals course within the last 9 months, you are all set. Access to the website is not required.
