Abu Baker: A companion of Muhammad; one of the first converts to Islam, and the first Khalifah of the community. Abu Talib: The uncle of Muhammad and the father of Ali. He raised Muhammad. Allah: God; “The God…the only God who exists” Caliph: Successor, the title of the men who succeeded Muhammad in the rule of the Islamic community. Dhikr: “remembrance”; Sufi ceremony of worship; the principle element in such worship is the repetition of the name of God. Faqih : an Islamic lawyer; one learned in the science of jurisprudence. Hadith : the words and deeds of the Islamic prophet Muhammad , not found in the Qur’an. Hafiz: one who has memorized the entire Qur’an. Hajj: the pilgrimage to Mecca Haram : forbidden; one of the five categories in to which all human actions are classified in Islamic law. Hudan: Guidance; one of the most important words in the Islamic religious vocabulary. Id-al-Adha
