Lloyd 1 S. Lloyd Professor Wolf Fall, 2009 Reaction Paper #1 I chose to read the article on nuclear power because I currently know very little about this subject and I have always been interested in it; particularly in the possible relationship between a higher power and science. Lately, I have come to the temporary conclusion that the two might not be mutually exclusive. Intuitively, I have thought that information concerning the nature of this relationship could be gleaned with the study of nuclear power and physics. I just find it really interesting and totally inconceivable that so much energy is stored in the tiny atom and similarly, I find the notion of a comprehendible higher power just as elusive. I never conceived that energy could be released just by an atom splitting and the combined weight of the resultant molecules weighing less than the original U-235 atom. My initial reaction to this information is to associate it with something more accessible and tangible than the atom. The atomic world just seems so esoteric.
