Alex Fish Human Geography 3/4/2009 The Story of Islam The Story of Islam is a film about the one of the largest religions in the world today. Islam began in the 7 th century, with its prophet, Muhammad. Muhammad birthed the religion, based on divine revelations from God, he claimed; he shared these revelations with the people through reading the Quran, the holy book of Islam. Muhammad, throughout his life as a prophet, memorized the entirety of the Quran. Muhammad was born in Mecca in 570 AD, a period of time where the Holy Roman Empire was just collapsing. Muhammad’s infancy was marred by the death of his father, less than a year after he was born. A few years after, he lost his mother, at age 6. He lived the majority of his childhood with parents that were not his biological ones. As he grew up, his guardians showed him the ways of commercial trade. He soon made a decent living as a merchant. He lived an uneventful life until he declared the Muslim prophecy. Muhammad would spend weeks out of the year meditating along in a cave.
