5 Epigenetic Control of Cells Epigenetic changes: study of heritable modifications that do not involve changes in the DNA sequence – Heritable: modifications present across generations (of cells) Pluripotent cells: remain undifferentiated but ready to enter any differentiation pathway Differentiation: via epigenetic changes particular genes are turned on and off particular proteins and enzymes present particular features of a cell are turned on and off
