Olivia Figaretti Extra Credit #5 One thing that I do not believe that we discussed in class was social capital. Social capital is a concept in business, public health , sociology and natural resources management that refers to connections within and between social networks and in connections among individuals. This is related to aging and older adults because it is shown that voluntary work can lead and promote better health. Social capital enhances people’s feelings of belonging and well-being. It is good because it makes that trust and bond between people; however, people who are poor and unemployed are said to have lower levels of trust in others. With that being reported, it is know that the lack of social support increases coronary heart disease mortality by up to four times. I think this is important for the ageing because of the obvious reasons that they need to work on their health much more than the younger population has to and with social capital, it is one more thing they can do to try and remain active in the community and stay as healthy as
