Using your the readings from your text, answer the following questions in complete sentences. Responses should be thorough, and no more than 4-5 pages in length for the entire assignment. Your responses will be graded using the criteria outlined in the syllabus. 1.) From chapter four, recall the distinction between manager and leader. Define both concepts and explain whether you agree with this distinction. Try to apply these two concepts to politics: when would political figures take on a managerial role, and when would they be required to take on "leadership" roles. (5 pts) The manager’s role is to continue the status-quo as efficiently as possible. This is not a negative thing if the status quo is efficient and profitable. However, the leader is looking for the next development or opportunity for growth and change in an effort to become better. Leaders look toward tomorrow to create the new status quo. That is, present-sight versus fore-sight. The manager’s focus is on the here and now or what is as opposed to the leader’s focus, which is on tomorrow and what can be. Mangers generally do the telling, while leaders normally do the selling. Managers organize labor, while leaders inspire labor. I agree with the distinction, a person should be designated to organize and a person should be designated to inspire. The manger without the leader would not work the same.
