Sociology: Written Assignment Name: Chapter 5: Date: Social Structure (O 3) The ability to define social reality reflects a group’s Power within a society. Describe how do we define our “social reality” according to sociologist, William Thomas? Then, explain what this means to you, personally. We define our “social reality” as what the majority of us define it, if the majority see something as a value, I see it a value, if it not, then it’s not. Personally, I see everything as what my family and society sees it, because my family and society is my environment. So if I don’t agree my society on an issue, either I go with them or I find another society. Describe what is meant by “reference groups,” and explain what value they have for you. Reference groups or peer groups mean people share the same believes, style of life, and ideas “views”.
