Figure 1 Paxton 1 Camille Paxton M. Weber ENC 1102 23 February 2010 The image below is a spray painted image by a man named Banksy (refer to figure 1). The photograph is of a British guard who looks as if he is watching his back to make sure that no one catches him urinating in public. The overall message of this image is that government is corrupt. Even the ones who present themselves as superior do not follow the restrictions they have placed on the rest of the population. Banksy’s image of the British guard appeals to logos, pathos, and ethos by using detailed elements in the image. Government workers believe that they are entitled to the occasional slip up of the law without punishment and therefore it is extremely difficult to trust or respect authority in today’s society. Using rhetorical appeals, Banksy’s unnamed artwork argues that politics are corrupt. Banksy is a graffiti artist who is said to reside in London (Bull). He is the son of a photocopy technician and was training to be a butcher as his profession (Bull). The artist, Banksy, is believed to be a native of Yate, which is near Bristo and is also expected to have been born in the year 1974 (Bull). He was distracted by the art of graffiti and quickly became known

Paxton 2 as the graffiti artist. Among his favorite topics for his art is government. Several of his images display soldiers, weapons, and young children. He has painted over one hundred “witty and thought-provoking images” (Bull) throughout the city. He has also gained many supporters who add to his collection during the year.
