Emily Tsiao (0930609) Section AF Exercise for Unit 1: How did the Gospel of Mark end? 1. Some possible explanations that might be able to explain why we have several endings of Mark in the various books is because of the situations in which these said codex’s was written. Ending 1 to Ending 4 increase in length and Ending 5 is only slightly shorter than Ending 4. What might contribute to this is the fact that excerpts are in chronological order beginning with Ending 1 from the Codex Vaticanus in the early 4 th century to Ending 4 written in the 10 th century. 2. I do not believe that any of these endings is the original ending for there is not enough evidence to prove such for any of the books. I believe that the ending most closely linked to the original ending of the Gospel of Mark was the Codex Vaticanus even though it was written after that of Ending 5 and possibly Ending 2. The reason I believe that this was true is because of the fact that the original pages of the manuscript at the end of Mark were replaced while the manuscript
