Unformatted text preview: December 2, 2009 [TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE] Meredith Huber Lecture 12/2/2009 [email protected] NOTES NOWWWWW Current Events: Obama going to the Copenhagen summit—next step beyond the Kyoto agreement (slow down climate change by having less green house gasses) • The US has not passed legislation that would help drive the process of Obama and US position at Copenhagen • Obama not indicated that he would attend the meeting until this week—he will make a stop—intended to send a signal that this administration is committed to doing something, he announced targets for the US in reductions of admissions by 2050—reduce them by 87% • Effect is limited: o No legislation—promises that Obama has made lack a certain amount of credibility because they have not been passed by congress o Obama is going to be there at the beginning of the conference—most gets done at the end., 5 cabinet members will be Troops to Afghanistan—vital national interest, costly, impact from international political economy;...
