Trusses are used in many different engineering applications. The objective of this lab was to experimentally determine the internal forces in simple trusses structures , and to compare those results with values obtained analytically. The three separate trusses were tested in the Tinius-Olsen testing machine one at a time , and data was collected from six strain gages per truss . The six strain gages from each truss were connected to the strain indicator and the data was recorded. The results were accurate for the trusses showing that certain members were in tension while others were in compression. The data was will b e used to compare the analytical results to the experimental results and showed good agreement with most errors less than 20 percent. . Introduction 3

Different trusses are used for various different applications in construction and engineering. Since trusses are so often used in the engineering field, their engineering properties are very important. The amount of tension and compression different members in a truss can hold is an important factor in design for different trusses. The objective of this lab was to experimentally determine the internal forces in simple trusses structures , and to compare those results with values obtained analytically. The data that was gathered from the Tinius-Olsen testing machine was then used to show the accuracy for each concrete cylinder that was prepared in the lab. These objectives were achieved by testing three the trusses in lab, and comparing the forces calculated analytically by Method of Joints to the forces found experimentally
