Cho 1 Lisa Lim 7006 Mr. Mohney, AP English, Period 1 19 March 2010 LCHS Art Show Critique As I was wandering around the foyer of La Canada High School’s luminous auditorium, my eyes became indulgently focused on an oil painting that was being presented as part of the school’s art show. With no title, the artist of the painting, Eun Jae Oh, used a beige canvas as her artistic medium to portray a composition of a female and a dog where the conventional roles of an owner and her pet dog are flagrantly switched. A girl is crouching naked with her neck circumvented by a collar and leash while a dog is in a suit holding the leash and standing perpendicular to the ground. All parts of the painting (dog, owner and background) came together very well as a whole. Besides her high- quality use of integrity, Oh also utilizes brightness to make her painting unique. The female and dog were clear, lucid and intelligible while the background was blurry and ambiguous. To emphasize the vital focal point of the painting with her use of proportion, Oh
