Chapter 8: Aerobic Respiration C 6 H 12 O 6 + O 2 CO 2 + H 2 O Glucose + Energy How Is The Energy In Glucose Captured During Glycolysis? Glycolysis Two Parts 1. Energy investment 2. Energy harvest Respiration or Fermentation? Oxygen = Cellular Respiration in mitochondria No oxygen = Fermentation in cytoplasm Anaerobic Pathways Do NOT use oxygen. Produce little ATP. Fermentation: Lactate Fermentation – occurs in the muscles from exercising vigorously. Alcoholic Fermentation – produced from ethanol and CO 2 from Pyruvate using hydrogen ions and electrons from NADH. Fermentation Pathways Begin w/glycolysis Do NOT completely breakdown glucose. 2 ATP made Regenerate NAD + Fermentation Produces Lactic acid in smuscles, yogurt, and sour cream. CO 2 and ethanol in beer, Champaign, & bread. How Does Cellular Respiration Generate More Energy? 1. Acetyl CoA Formation Pyruvate >>>> Acetyl CoA 2.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
