The Wal-Mart Company Tosha Collins Term M219 1) Describe how each of the components of the local marketing environment are impacted by the presence of a new Wal-Mart supercenter. Although Wal-Mart strives to be a good neighbor to the communities where they operate, they also are a very competitive company. I have noticed that were there is a Target, there is a Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has three major competitors. They are Carrefour, Costco, and Target. These stores compete with each other using product and prices. Competitors use information regarding market shares, product movement, and sales to access their own weaknesses and strengths to build their marketing strategy. Competition also relies on the volume of car driving, which in turn depends on economic activity. 1 Local economic forces are a struggle for upcoming Wal-Mart stores. Communities are fighting to keep Wal-Mart out of their neighborhoods, claiming that Wal-Mart's low prices could damage their quality of life. With the economy in its current business cycle today, their isn't much strength in a person's buying power. Willingness to spend is minimal as well, without disposable income. There are some activists arguing that if Wal-Mart entered its community, good paying union jobs would be replaced with low- wage, low-benefit Wal-Mart jobs. 2 Wal-Mart has transformed it's small political action committee into one of the nation's biggest corporate PACs by promising salaried managers and other executives that it will make corresponding donations in their names, on a two-to-one basis, into a company-
