The roulette wheel is divided into 38 slots, numbered , 00 , 1 , 2 , 3 ,..., 35 , 36 . Of the numbers 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ,..., 36 there are 18 numbers colored red and 18 numbers colored black. The two slots num bered and 00 are colored green. To play, the dealer spins the wheel very fast, then drops a small ball onto the wheel, and the wheel comes to rest at one of the numbers. While the ball is spinning, gamblers place bets on where the ball will come to rest. Bets include the number and color of the final slot, and many others. Our gambler plays roulette with the following strategy. Each time the wheel spins she places a bet that the color of the final slot is red. Her chance of winning is 18 / 38 .
