Night by Elie Wiesel is a memoir about the Holocaust. Eliezer is a young Jewish boy from Sighet, Hungary. At the beginning of the memoir, Sighet is transformed into a ghetto. Then, one night, orders are given to clear out Sighet. Hungry and exhausted townspeople board a train. During the train ride, a presumably crazy woman foresees the fires of a concentration camp. These fires become a reality when they reach Auswitch. Eliezer is separated from his mother and sister, who he later assumes were burned to death. Eliezer is left with only his father. Eliezer works hard at the concentration camp, and is constantly tortured. Germans confiscate his shoes and the gold crown on his tooth. On little food, Eliezer must ensure that he appears strong so that he isn’t “selected” to be killed because he is too weak. Because of a foot injury, he is hospitalized. The camp is evacuated because of the advance of the Russian military, and Eliezer struggles to use his foot to walk. The SS troops command the prisoners to march, and
