Health Communication Health communication involves strategies used to inform, influence, and enhance all aspects of health care (Definition of Health, n.d.). Health communication is relevant in a number of contexts and consists of different components. In health settings, people involved in each component may include provider-patient or interaction among a heath care team. Some major components of health communication include personal goals, interdependence, sensitivity, and shared meaning. Personal goals have to do with the different goals and expectations of each person’s approach to health encounters. For instance, in a health encounters, patients expect caregivers to maintain and restore health (Axia College, 2010). However, caregivers may have other expectation in certain scenarios that may include saving time and preventing work-overload.
