Cano 1 Lloyd Cano Professor Baggett AMH 2010 29 March 2018 American History: Disc-Recon Essay There were many honorable and stand out people who helped the cause of the war during the American revolution, like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin franklin, and many others. But one person that stands out the most to me was Benedict Arnold, during the American revolution he gained many followers, though it may have been because he was also very wealthy, he still had people that followed his leadership and trusted him. But something that brought me to talk about Benedict Arnold was though he was a very well-known general that was part of George Washington’s at the halfway mark of the American revolution. Towards the later years of the American Revolution he became known as Americas most notorious traitor. During the climatic point of the war was where Benedict Arnold had succeeded in helping the American army overcome John Burgoyne of the British army forcing him to surrender after he had closed off the Mohawk Valley to St leger’s Advance which was John Burgoyne’s plan to attack the American army. After Benedict Arnolds help on stopping Burgoyne’s advance on the Americans, at another battle Burgoyne was left with short supplies after being defeated at Oriskany, new York on August 6 he would then be defeated at Bennington, Vermont, on August 16 where he was forced to withdraw to Saratoga where he would then be met by General Horatio Gates of the American army where he was forced to surrender on October 17, 1777.
