The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Gender Equity Effectiveness Case Study 1 . This study case refers to gender diversification at Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT); a non-profit international agricultural research base organization based in México. I will do this utilizing the Burke-Litwin Causal Model (B-L). The lecture covers multiple causes that the authors described as having a significant impact on why this organization has a low female representation. These causes, as I see them within the B-L model, are the following (see Illustration 1): 1. Transformational variables: a. External Environment: decline of funds, commitment to donor community. b. Leadership: lack of consideration or priority by previous leadership. c. Culture: low history of female representation, mental models. 2. Transactional variables: a. Working climate: perceived stereotyping of women, challenging environment, things, moving too fast, work norms, work environment, expanding agenda. b. Structure: vertical organization, decisions made without input from scientific community. 1
