2 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HELICOPTER PARENTING The Relationship between Helicopter Parenting and Adjustment to College In Darlow, Norvilitis, Schuetze (2017) article, the main focus was to address the association between parental involvement in young adults’ lives during college years and the consequences that may result. The study examined the role of helicopter parents and its effects on anxiety, depression, and other adjustments of college students (Darlow, Norvilitis, & Schuetze, 2017). There has been research that indicates the increase of parental involvement in children’s lives, as well as college student’s lives. This is due to the fact that a lot of college students are delaying the traditional markers of adulthood, such as home ownership, employment, and procreating (Darlow et al., 2017). The researchers hypothesized that students with helicopter parents will have higher levels of anxiety and depression and lower levels of self- efficacy. Overall, the primary goal of this study is to examine the link between helicopter parenting and adjustment to college. Literature Review Darlow, Norvilitis, Schuetze (2017) have noted in recent years have the involvement of parents in college students’ lives has increased. There has been several studies that indicate too much parental involvement is associated with higher levels of depression and anxiety in children.
