th
in class
1) Download the file MATLAB commands from the resources section of smart site.
PRACTICE any commands that you don’t understand how to use. If you have questions,
come to the computer lab on Tues or Thurs 24. No work will be turned in for this
problem.
2) Write a function called FixedIterationRoot that solves for a root using the fixed
iteration method. Your program should quit and give an error message if the fixed point
equation a trial solution do not converge.
Use your function to solve the equation y = x*sin(x)*exp(x/2)5 for all roots. Send your
function to your TA,
Lilian Chang
[email protected]
with the commands that needs to be typed into the command line for all roots, so that she
can copy paste. This function is due to Lilian before 10:00 on 419.
3) Pencil and Paper Problem: Solve the following system of nonlinear equations using
Newtons method. Start at x = 1, y = 1 and carry out the first five iterations.
