Quiz 2 Answer An Excel file, “union_sent.xls” is given in the data directory, which was copied from the covariance matrix given in p. 120 in Bollen. Also see pp. 82-83 for a description of the data. Consider the following model. This model satisfies the t-rule and order condition for identification, but not the rank condition. (1) Explain why. In your explanation for the order and rank conditions, use matrices C and C i as defined in pp. 100-101 in Bollen (or slides 19 and 22 in my lecture notes, lecture4). (2) Verify if your model is identifiable by an SEM program. Include only the portion of your output relevant to identification. Explain why your output suggests that the model is or isn’t identified. (1) Given the data df of 15, this model passes the t-rule since it has 11 free parameters ( β 21 β 32 γ 31 γ 12 γ 22 ϕ 11 ϕ 22 ϕ 12 ψ 11 ψ 22 ψ 33 ) and so its model df is 4. And given the five path coefficients to estimate, we can construct the C matrix as 12 21 22 32 31 10 0 0 100 01 0 γ β βγ =
