More expensive than other method but permits greater coverage area Computer generated numbers are created by using existing numbers and dropping 1 or more of the last four digits and randomly substituting numbers (random digit dial, RDD) RDD samples are useful in counteracting the effects of unlisted numbers

Advance Letters and Incentive Appropriate for phone surveys Advance letter sent to alert HH to interview If there is an incentive, it should be sent along with advance letter If the incentive is based on completion of interview, it is NOT an incentive and is generally mailed to the R after the interview
