Unformatted text preview: Homework Assignment #5 LU-Based Determinant Function Margot Gerritsen Shela Aboud Emmet Caulfield February 5, 2010 1 1 Introduction In this homework assignment, you are given a partially complete matrix utility library, almost identical to that used in the Midterm Assessment . Your task, similar to Homework #4 , is to add a determinant function to the li- brary, but this time, you will use the iterative in-place LU decomposition method rather than the Laplace expansion and recursion. As before, you will use svn to interact with your personal Subversion repository, as used from Homework #2 onward and, again, with the structure prescribed in Homework #2 . You may collaborate and consult freely with other people, but this is not a team or group assignment your solution must be your own. You can examine the (beautified) source-code and documentation, generated with Doxygen , for the partially complete library at http://www.stanford. edu/ ~ emmetc/CME-211/HW5 . 2 Instructions Read every word of this entire document right through closely before you do anything else. Absolutely do not skim. 2.1 Directory Structure and Import First, export the content of http://cees-svn.stanford.edu/homeworks/HW5/ trunk into an empty temporary directory and import it into your personal repository at http://cees-svn.stanford.edu/ your-sunet-id with the struc- ture prescribed in HW2, just as you should have done in previous homeworks. You can read more about Subversion in the online book, Version Control with Subversion . After these export and import operations, the trunk for this homework assign- ment should be at http://cees-svn.stanford.edu/ your-sunet-id /HW5/trunk this is what we will collect from cees-svn at the assignment deadline. If you cannot svn checkout your work from http://cees-svn.stanford.edu/ your- sunet-id /HW5/trunk , then neither can we. If we cant, you automatically get zero for non-submission, so make absolutely certain that you can checkout your submission from that URL before the deadline. 2.2 The Task You are given an incomplete matrix utility library, whose implementation (all the function definitions) is in matrix.c and whose interface (all the function declarations) is in matrix.h ....
