SYMMETRY - infinite number of planes of symmetry (ii) Spherical symmetry - rare, found only in protozoans Protozoans (radiolarians) - these organisms lack polarity (i.e. no differentiation along an axis) - body lacks an axis (spherical form) Lecture 3 - 3 BODY PLANS 1. SYMMETRY - divided equally by more than two planes passing through the longitudinal axis (iii) Radial symmetry - rare e.g. polyps, some sponges - most forms are modified (multiradiality) (e.g. biradial, quadriradial, pentaradial) body axis - body has the general form of a cylinder - one main axis around which body parts are radially arranged Lecture 3 - 4
