Then, ONE person needs to type up the answers to the two questions and resubmit them for grading. Peggy Ball Regina Bear Melissa Dunton Adam Sauter 1. Baking a potato takes a long time, even in a hot oven, because the inside of a potato warms up very slowly. a. What makes it hard for conduction to transfer heat to the center of the potato? A potato is a poor conductor of electricity and a poor conductor of heat. It has very few mobile electrons. The only way it can warm up is by the bucket brigade approach of atom -by-atom jostling. b. What makes it hard for convection to transfer heat to the center of the potato? There is no mobile fluid in the potato. The fluid in the potato is immobilized by the starches and fibers in the potato so it cannot undergo convection. c. What makes it hard for radiation to transfer heat to the center of the potato? It is not a good absorber of thermal radiation. If the skin and center were black and the flesh was transparent then it would warm quickly due to radiation. Since the flesh is the center and the skin is not black it is hard for it to absorb radiation. Agree Completely
