On September 11, 2001 our country experienced something new and terrifying. We suffered a terrorist attack on our home soil. In the wake of these attacks the government took steps to protect us from further attacks. Now we have the US Patriot Act. Most people will never need to know everything included in this act or ever experience the effects of it. But a lot of people would be shocked to actually read and understand what’s in these documents. Agencies can now get secret court orders to wire tap peoples phones and gather information in search of terrorist activities. Also it used to be very hard to get a court order for private records such as medical or financial but now all that and agency has to do is claim they are investigating terrorist activities. To top it all off if an agency gets your medical records your doctor can not even tell you that they handed them over. We also now have a no fly list. A person can be added to this list and have no way of getting their name removed without getting a lawyer and going to court. I can understand the benefits of
