Unformatted text preview: Walid Hamidy GENS 420 9/15/08 Student Autobiography My name is Walid Hamidy and I’m a senior Construction Engineering major. My story begins with my family. My family immigrated to the United States approximately 19 years ago. From a far off land we know through CNN as Afghanistan. During the 1980s the Russians were invading my country with great force. The Red Army was a force to be reckoned with. Well, of course until 1989 when they were finally defeated by the people of Afghanistan. This was the main reason why the Berlin wall fell, according to many Afghans, including my parents. The danger that my parents were facing by staying back was far too great. Instead they decided to pursue new opportunities by coming to the US. After arriving in San Diego in June of 1990, I could only recount happiness and joy.
