Newgenics New genetics? Whether new genetic technologies could be considered eugenic? – reading of Petersen Eugenics vs. dysgenic Positive vs. negative eugenics The fit to reproduce vs. the unfit to not reproduce increase of good birth and decrease of dysgenic birth Totalitarian vs. liberal eugenics the state will implement the eugenic policies eg. Sterilization in California vs. people have choice of the eugenic means such as IVF Population-level improvement by control of reproduction via state intervention Versus Promotion of technologies of reproductive selection via non-coercive individual choices. Liberal eugenics concerned quite a bit in America Eugenic vs. Euzoic Eu – meaning good, zoe- meaning life ‘euzoic’—improving the human species through the art and science of living well Francis Galton’s “Marks for Family Merit” – positive, liberal, eugenic People apply for competitive jobs should have background checks Competiveness for jobs, meritocracy are bound in one’s family heredity
